Hiding HTML/SCRIPT... I think it IS possible!

I have only been programming for about six months now, but I put in about 40 hours a week’s worth.  Let’s call it my new hobby.  Anyways, I remember reading posts in the past by individuals who requested a certain feature that seemed very ridiculous at the time.

They wanted to hide their code from the user!

Now, one of the first questions that popped up in my head was why on earth would someone wish to ‘hide’ their code.  After all, the internet is all about trading technologies (right?).  Anyways, every now and then I gave the subject a little more thought and I eventually came to a conclusion.

Internet Applications are the wave of the future.  They don’t need to be installed and they will work on any computer (for the most part).  So, if anyone would want their code hidden from the user, it would seem that it would be the application developer community.  I am currently working on a web application and I have been working on it for almost six months now, I certainly would be very upset if someone acquired my code, copied my product and just changed a few headings and made money off my hard work.

Anyways, back to the topic of ‘hiding’ code.  Does everyone out there still think it’s impossible?   I think it’s possible.

Actually, I believe I have found a way to do it (accidentally).  Who knows, maybe the late night programming and the double espresso’s have paid off.  I believe that I found a way to set up a site so that all the user ever sees is about 10 lines of code and that’s it.  I am not talking about disabling the right button; I am just talking about using a different style.

Who’s interested in pushing this conversation further?

Nah - still got it wrong. There is no 4 in my DoB. ^_^

1467 has nothing to do with a date. ^_^

Yeah, he's encoded his DoB with VBScript.

(gonna get flamed for this one I'm sure...)

Not to spam but, It looks like everyone is having fun with the chit chat type thread whereas this is a somewhat "stuffy" forum. For more light hearted banter (as well as strictly tech forums) with other techs you might want to check out http://www.galahtech.com/forums/index.php?referrerid=49 . It doesn't have a ton of traffic because it is fairly new (a little over 350 members) but the guy's & gals there are great.

Again, sorry to spam but I just want to see that forum grow and figured quite a few of you would like it.

Michael

this is a somewhat "stuffy" forum.

Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon??

SPAM = Stuff Posing As Meat

I know what email spam is, but what the heck is real Spam?

Frances on Apr 3, 2003 at 11:31:57 AM (# 155)

Monte, here you are: Spam. (Script credit to KustomKraft, see d_id=9977)

msimmons, I had a look. Did you mean we would like the chitchat forums or the technical ones? As for the latter, I like all the smiley images but what I genuinely don't like is that I can't tell anything about a post unless I click on it. I clicked on quite a lot but was disappointed. I think I've been spoilt by the emailed Daily Newsletter and by http://www.siteexperts.com/daily/daily.asp, which I like to look through before I start browsing. But more than that, it seemed that the answers were too light, whereas here members go to quite some trouble to make sure someone is happy with a solution. But perhaps I didn't look in the best posts. I come here for helpful tips and I get them, and I try to help others. So I will continue coming here first, then if I can't find what I want, my next port of call is always Google Advanced Search. But thanks for the link, I did enjoy those smilies, I did, I did.

> this is a somewhat "stuffy" forum
Firstly, it helps me get my job done and raises a smile at the same time.
Secondly, I don't agree at all  ;-)
Stuffy ????
Def 1? No, not at all, at all
Def 2: well, sometimes, maybe a leetle ... like this or this or this?
Def 3: just open each page in a new window, that should clear it, hmmm .............
Def 4: erm, for the bit before the colon I really don't think so ... he he he .... but okay okay I'll give you the bit after the colon.
For those of you who didn't follow, here it is again.

Oh dear, where did all that time go?

msimmons on Apr 3, 2003 at 1:08:26 PM (# 156)

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend anyone w/the "stuffy" comment... I've just always viewed this forum as a "strictly business" forum. I noticed the fun being had in this thread and I thought some of the members would enjoy the mix of the two spectrums.

Monte, I agree with your point about light answers but that is due to the board being so new. We have plenty of regular that love to help but I think they are discuraged because the lack of traffic.

I really thought I had more to say when I started this post but I can't remember now :)
