We give Stupid Prizes to Smart People

Hello All,

I just created a new site, http://www.community-credit.com, and I would like to get everybody's opinion and/or critique of.  I am not sure if this is the best place, but I would also like to invite folks to check it out.  It is a rather unique concept where we reward people for contributing to the development community by doing things like Answering questions in discussion forums, blogging, writing articles, posting examples and others.  The prizes that we give out are a bit "unusual"  (USB Lava Lamp, Red Swingline Stapler, etc) and you can see them here      Let me know what you think about the site design and the concept overall.  It is a fun concept and since this is a very active discussion board with some very sharp folks, I would like to see what kind of interest there is in the development community.  Thanks, in advance.

     Thanks,

You are very welcome.  I was going to email you ahead of time, but surprises are so much more fun.  The artwork was really great, I hope that the shirt does it justice.

I am happy to hear that you like the changes to the site.  I actually didn't quite get everything done, in fact, and will be working more now.  Right as I was in the middle of making my changes, my internet connection died.  It just so happened that somebody was pressure cleaning the outside of my house and they pressure cleaned some of the phone lines right off.  The important thing is that I got the membership changes in place so everybody can have their own account as you saw in the "My Credit" section. That will avoid having entries by the same person but with different email addresses.  I am also going to start adding functionality to emphasize the "community" aspect of the site a bit more.   And lastly, I am going to be working with other website owners to integrate the web services into their own websites.

DS - I added a bunch of points on this page (http://www.community-credit.com/SubmitPoints.aspx / the old page) without logging in - the home page did not refresh the numbers. I am wondering if because I did not log in to submit - di they get thrown into an alternate bin?

Also - the site seems to be loading slower now - have you bulked up on graphics?

The points I added should have sealed first place - I'm starting to get freeky psychodelic right now. oooh ah oooooo

Hmmm.   You just answered a question that was puzzling me.  I recently added an approval section so that points do not get immediately added.   Entries are now moderated which means that you should not get an approval email until your submission is approved.  I also recieve an email letting me know that somebody submitted an entry, but did not get one in this case.  In this case, I did not recieve an email letting me know that I need to review an entry.  This was not the first time, but both times it was because somebody had already entered points in the past.  My initial conclusion is that it might be a caching issue. If you have any thoughts on it, that would be appreciated.

The good news is........drum roll please....... you won the grand prize!!!  Woo Hoo!!!!  (confetti falling from the sky)   Nicely done!  I have also just entered the prizes for this months competition.

Okay, it turned out to be something stupid.  It was simply that I had a link on one of the pages that I forgot to change.  Ooops.  It is fixed now, so submissions now will use the new submit/review method. Mystery solved.

The Option Box on : http://www.community-credit.com/MyCredit/SubmitMyPoints.aspx overflows into the right column. I imagine you've got a long description there... I vaguely remember a workaround because I think the combo box does not allow a < br> tag...

Anyone have the fix handy?

Also David, The red text which appears after the submission also extends into the right column.

Does a combo box react to the \n character?
