Need to extend WiFi 1-2 miles, need help.

Can somebody help me with a parts list? Im deployed to iraq and would like to extend my satcom network to where i work from where i sleep. The distance is about 1/2mile open air but with some obstructions. Ideally 2miles would be nice. Ive looked around for products and they dont tell me specifically what i need to extend my range. Omni Directional systems are nice and all but they dont tell me range and what special equipment i need to purchase. Is it just their system and a wifi router? or do i need special amps etc. Im a satcom weenie and only know the Wan not the Lan lol.

A queations first: What kind of obstructions are there? trees or buildings?

If there are trees, you're lucky. if it;s buildings... maybe.

In case of trees, you need two bi-directional dipole antennae (21dB) and two accesspoints with an output of 100mW. 2ft antennae should be enough. (we managed 5mi with 3ft antennae)

If it's (high) buildings, you have to bounce the signal. (like you're playing billard/snooker/pool) it's tricky but with some practice you should get a signal. Choose smooth shiny surfaces and count in a lot of loss. You can't go over unless you use a repeater.

Put the antennae up as high as possible so they see each other (or at least theoretically). Setup the accesspoints and test the connection. (From the accesspoint at your home to your computer, I suggest you use copper (utp, cat 5 or up).
