The Wireless Internet

My computer has been acting up. The wireless internet has been sluggish or sometimes doesn't work at all so when this happens I unplug the router and it works better for a short period of time. I thought the problem was the router but I brought my computer to my parents house and the same problem is occurring. But when I plug directly into the box, the internet works great. My interpretation of all of this is that there is a problem with my computer and its wireless internet connection. Are there any settings that need to be adjusted on my computer or any suggestions for what is wrong?
