Especially if you look at the description of the XML forum:
Discuss building web applications using XML, XSL, SOAP, XML-RPC, etc.
The original poster found this board somehow. Probably a search engine. My suggestion to use Google (complete with a keyword phrase) was a good one, and came from a frustration of posts such as the one by MAINA having become commonplace around here. Many of the "regulars" who used to post on here no longer do, because of posts like that one, and spam posts that have absolutely nothing to do with this forum or it's purpose.
When someone posts on here, it helps for them to say what they've done. Taking the time to set up an account and then posting, essentially, "help me find an XML tutorial" does not do anyone any good. The reason is simple. The person making the post does not provide any information, and is expecting someone to post a link (or links) for them, thus not doing any real work themselves to find a solution.
The time and effort exerted setting up an account and posting a question that could easily be found in a search engine, could have been used using the search engine to find an answer to the question.
Yes, I know the post could be easily ignored. However, it takes up space on the front page which could be used for actual discussions or problems.
So no, it was not a joke. And it's basically useless that you would post a reply like that 5 months later.
