 VB Script question...

Not so much for me, but for my 5-year-old.

See, we recently discovered that my son LOVES the VB Script message boxes. So we taught him how to make basic ones, and save them as VBS files.

Well, instead of just keeping the normal icons, like on this page: http://www.javascriptkit.com/javatutors/vbalert.shtml

He wants to be able to change the icon. For example, instead of the big red circle with the X in it, he might want to put a smiley face.

I don't know if this is possible with VBS, and I've never really done that in VBS. I've normally just stuck to the normal options. I'm pretty sure it can be done with normal VB, or VB.NET, but I don't know about VBS.

So, can it be done? I haven't found anything about it yet on Google, so I figured I'd ask here, too...

VBScript can't invoke the Windows API directly. However VBScript can invoke VB created COM components. Either search for a COM or ActiveX component that someone has made or I could even take the code from the site and make one for you. It would take all of 10min if you're still interested in this.

oooh, I love those.

When I first picked up VB5 many many years ago, I also loved the VB message boxes. And it was among the first few functions that taught me the concept of function parameters.

<script type="text/vbscript">
' instead of teaching him numeric constants that are hard to remember,
' there are literal constants

MsgBox "Who's there?", vbQuestion, "Knock knock"
MsgBox "Me!", vbExclamation, "Answer"
</script>

And yes, there are vbYes, vbNo, vbOK, vbCancel, and all the like.

It's better to teach him correct spelling first than to grasp those numeric constants. And it's case-insensitive I recall, less discouraging for a child.

It's all part of the "Visual Basic Scripting Runtime". Yes, I think that's the correct term for it. It's in the VB-family, so yes, that includes VBS, VBScript (web), VB6, and I guess VB.NET as well (I gave up on that last one)

Push the button for your trip/odometer until it gets to "trip A"
Turn the key to the off position, push and hold in the trip/odometer button, turn the key to the on position (you should see 6-7 dash lines starting to dissapear) When they all dissapear it will flash "0000000" and it's reset.
