Short Description
See how to override the browsers built-in scrollbars with your own custom widgets.

Long Description
We show you an IE5 behavior that overrides the built-in scrollbars. Our behavior demonstrates using XML to define the scrollbar widgets, dynamic expressions, mouse capturing and more. And since it is a designed as an IE5 behavior, it automatically is ignored by all other browsers.

Ok, I am pretty disappointed with this article. I remember needing a DHTML scroll control that I could customize and seeing this article and gagging. I ended up writing one of my own that works beautifully. I will have to make it into a behavior and distribute the code online. You can see the current iteration (WAY cool) at http://thewebkid.com/scroll/red.

OK, neat, but the horizontal scrollbar irks me. You see, I'm investigating ebook production, and at present I can get most of what I want from IE5, but I dearly would like to get rid of the HORIZONTAL scrollbar in a frame where the (long) texts scroll. The vertical scrollbar obviously is essential (that's why I looked at this thing, to see if I couod replace the entire scrollbar pair), but the horizontal one just steals one displayed line in the frame. They are locked to each other in the normal setup. Can I disable only the horizontal one? (The problem is mentioned somewhere on this site, but nobody has answered the question yet.)
