The article has alot of merit. However, it is not easy to follow the code samples and changes at each step. Also, the code is flawed and making the changes as described only seems to produce further errors. The article needs to be rewritten, so those of us with a little bit (vs alot) of knowledge can follow it and produce a working sample. The suggestion posed by another user that the code be supplied in its entirety is a good one; it would help to show us new to DHTML where we're making our mistakes. It may also help to prevent some of the "bad" comments, as well as boost the ratings. I recommend not only providing a complete end-result, but also complete code for each of the intermediate steps.
BTW, I get the same ";" error and by applying the fix suggested, I also don't get anything to display. Additionally, the code on your page shows a <Body> tag followed by a <Head> tag. Therefore, if you copy the code as shown and paste it into a document, all kinds of interesting things happen. This was my first clue that the article was not closely checked for accuracy prior to submission. So, simply by saying "it works for me" is not an acceptable answer to those of use having the problems. Your complete example may be functioning properly, but for those of us who have to follow the directions it doesn't. From the frame of reference of a "new DHTML developer" (i.e., make few assumption) have you tried following your directions? Does it produce working code at each step? If "no" to either of these questions, then the article is not very helpful.
As it stands right now, it looks like a cool idea, it seems to work on your site, but I can't prove that it works anywhere else.
Eagerly awaiting working code, so I can implement the theory behind it. | | 909creative on Mar 8, 1999 at 1:22:34 PM | Rating: 5 | | Hello! I like this scriptlet becasue it makes interesting, dynamic ads. However, I currently use this in an IFrame to display on my web pages, and I use a script that rotates pages to rotate the banners contained in the IFrame. Most of the scripts to rotate banners deal with GIF-type banners. Can you recommend a script to rotate a dynamic ad as this one? Thanks. | | Union Town on Mar 2, 1999 at 9:13:43 AM | Rating: 4 | |
Scott I would appreciate if you would email me with all the details on one single page where I put the scripts. I am totally confused, but I would really like to have a working example where I can just go and view and study the script code.
I think if you put simple instructions at each part of the script on one page that would make understanding it a lot more simple.
I am wait your email.
